How to Find Something Good to Watch

You know that moment you find yourself in after a long day where all you want to do is crash and watch something good? …And then, inevitably you find yourself experiencing that annoying hunt that always seems to follow as you search, swipe and scroll, trying to find something you actually want to watch? We found it in insane that in this day and age we were still having that problem. We were like, “Dude! How is this possible?! We have more options now than ever!! Why hasn’t someone solved this yet?!”

Entertainment isn’t kept in a cage any more, it’s spread out over an endless landscape of options – and the fact that those options are endless, kind of becomes the problem at the same time. If you decide you’d really like to just see the good stuff, well, it means you need to be willing to search… and scroll… and swipe… and read… and preview… and repeat…. and when we were in the mood to relax, we found that wasn’t really how we wanted to spend our time. It didn’t seem like there was a site out there that offered the solution we were looking for. That’s why we created SomethingGoodtoWatch.com

SomethingGoodtoWatch.com is like having your own digital Indiana Jones who braves the internet on your behalf and does all the searching and previewing that you don’t want to do. When you subscribe and get access to the “Watch” page, there’s no random articles to maneuver through, no “click” traps, no side agendas, it’s just one simple continuous feed of good movie suggestions and cool videos. To watch the videos, just push play. To rent the movies, just click to be taken directly to the movie page on Amazon, iTunes, or streaming service.

It gives you exactly what you want when your in the mood to relax: an awesome selection of movies and videos with no searching needed. When it comes to streaming services, indie filmmakers, youtubers, and hollywood blockbusters, each outlet offers their own cluster of awesomeness. What we wanted was a site that went out and found all that awesomeness for us – so that when we were ready to watch something good, we could.  To do that, it would mean creating a site that offered suggestions – not streaming. Otherwise it would cause the selection to be based off of agreements and handshakes – that approach already existed in many forms, and it wasn’t solving the problem we were having.

The solution we came up with ended up benefiting everyone involved. The users got the awesome videos and movies they wanted, the video makers got the views and subscribers they wanted, and the filmmakers got the rentals they needed to go make more awesome films for us to watch. We’re a resource that shows WHAT & WHERE all the good movies and videos are, regardless of what platform they’re available on.

The Turtleneck Club - A Something Good to Watch Original

The exact year is unknown, but one this is for certain…turtlenecks are awesome and in Jonathan Pierce’s movie The Turtleneck Club, seven friends unite one a week to make sure none of them forget that. Returning home after running errands, Tim Kawoski (Jonathan Pierce) arrives at his apartment with an item that is anything but typical…a traction kit. Having never owned one, Tim is determined to figure out just exactly what this new contraption is all about. But with Turtleneck Club members scheduled to arrive any minute, it would have to wait. Wrapped up in the wild and crazy evening that ensued, there was no way Tim could have imagined snoopy T-neck member RC Stitt, (JP Moorman) would take the traction kit into his own hands, creating a Turtleneck Club meeting that would go down in “full-neck” history…

How to Always Have Something Good to Watch

We now live in a time when films & videos on the web can actually be better than in the theatre. But who’s keeping tabs on both the new & old stuff so you know it even exists? When searching blogs & forums, it seems impossible to find one that isn’t spazzed out with ads, broken links or disappointing suggestions. Between streaming services, indie films, youtube, vimeo, etc… there are more good movies & videos available now then ever. The problem we ran across was “…ok so, we know they’re out there, now HOW do we find out about them?!” We knew we weren’t the only ones who wanted an easy way to know WHAT & WHERE all these cool movies and videos were, so we created SomethingGoodtoWatch.com.

The streaming services are awesome, but since they can’t make a streaming deal with everyone, lots of awesome movies and videos end up in the shadows never getting the spotlight they deserve. That meant there were tons of awesome movies and videos out there, that we were never going to know about because they weren’t being presented to us. We hated that!

Another issue was that awesome movies and videos aren’t search-friendly on google. Video and movie titles are just as creative as their creators and therefore they rarely make sense from a “search” perspective. That’s because there’s no “agenda” when it comes to good videos and movies. They’re just fun, crazy, unique, creative things that aren’t supposed to make sense on a google search. Since they don’t, it makes them really hard to find.

When it came to blogs and forums, it seemed the problem still wasn’t getting solved. Forums running off on tangents, blog pages so ad heavy that it basically felt like you were beating a level on a video game just to figure out how to get to the next page, (funny but true!) broken links, or just flat out bad suggestions. We found ourselves screaming, “Can someone PLEASE create a simple one page continuous feed with awesome stuff to watch?! That’s all we want! …just a simple resource that shows WHAT & WHERE all the great videos and movies are!” We never found it, so we created SomethingGoodtoWatch.com

The site ended up being a solution that benefited everyone involved.
